Meet the Duo behind Sunday Funday Markets

As our Sunday Funday family continues to grow, we thought there was no better way to kick things off than by introducing ourselves across our new Sunday Funday Market’s blog and sharing a little about the duo behind the markets.

We're Katelyn Ellery and Kimberley Thiele, best friends for over 20 years, proud mums, passionate supporters of South Australian small businesses, and the co-founders of Sunday Funday Markets.

Like so many of you, we've always loved spending weekends exploring local markets, discovering new businesses, enjoying great food and spending quality time with our families and friends. That shared love for community, creativity and connection is what inspired us to create Sunday Funday Markets.

Together, we bring a wealth of experience in event management, business development, retail, marketing, fundraising and community engagement.

Before co-founding Sunday Funday Markets, Katelyn spent more than a decade building a successful career in the events industry through Creative Lifestyle Markets and Ellery Events Australia, creating markets, fashion showcases and community events that connected thousands of visitors with South Australian businesses and helped countless local brands grow.

Kimberley brings experience in business development, retail leadership, customer experience, community engagement and operational management. Her passion for building relationships, supporting small businesses and creating exceptional visitor experiences.

By combining our experience, friendship and shared vision, we've created more than just a market, we've created a place where local businesses can grow, families can make memories, and the community can come together to celebrate everything that makes South Australia so special.

Building Sunday Funday Markets has been an incredible journey. It hasn't always been easy, but we've learnt that you don't have to wait for the perfect moment to start something meaningful. Great things are built one step at a time, through hard work, resilience and a genuine passion for what you do.

Most importantly, we'd like to say thank you. To every stallholder, visitor, volunteer and supporter, thank you for believing in Sunday Funday Markets and helping us grow into one of Adelaide's favourite family-friendly market experiences. We genuinely couldn't do it without you.

And after more than 20 years of friendship, we still haven't run out of things to talk and laugh about... although these days the conversations are usually about weather forecasts, stall maps, food truck logistics, event schedules and whether we've packed enough cable ties!

As we continue sharing stories through our new Sunday Funday Markets Blog, we'll be taking you behind the scenes, introducing our incredible stallholders, celebrating South Australian businesses, sharing event highlights, offering market tips, and giving you a closer look at everything that goes into creating each Sunday Funday Markets experience.
